A Tisket, A Tasket, A Flower Girl Basket

I know I've mentioned before that my friends, Heather & Tillman are getting married in December. As part of my brilliant plan to keep myself busy, I offered to help out with any wedding crafting that needed to be done. Including a flower girl basket that Heather's daughter will be carrying. 

For the flower girl basket, I started off with a basket from Goodwill, pine cones collected from my parents yard, moss from the craft store, ribbon and my glue gun, Debra. 

I started by gluing clumps of the moss around the edge of the basket. 

When I was finished gluing the the moss, I tied two bows around the base of the handles on either side of the basket. 

After I had the bows tied just how I wanted them, and secured with a little hot glue, I hot glued a couple pine cones to the center of the bow. 

There you have it, a beautiful, easy flower girl basket that fits into the rustic theme of my friend's wedding. 

I'm happy with how it turned out, and more importantly, the bride and flower girl are thrilled with my results as well. 

1 more week until Heather & Tillman's big day...I can't wait!

Biggest DIY Project Ever!!!

My wedding was the biggest DIY project I think I've ever taken on. I've been involved in weddings before, and even currently have a couple people sucking up to me because they know they'll need my crafty skills when their big days arrive. (Yeah, Brandy Jeanne & Tiffany, I'm talking about you!)  
 

I shared several projects with you, but there were quite a few last minute ones that I didn't have time to post before the wedding craziness set in. 
 

Let's start with our save the dates! 
 

I was so proud of how these turned out, and more people seem to remember these unique save the dates better then our actual wedding invitations! I borrowed the idea from this Etsy store and loved it because we decided not to take engagement pictures so we didn't need to use pictures to make these. 

This brings me to my invitations!

It was a simple gate card with a green card printed with all the details. The gate card was then closed and put into a sleeve of burlap and ribbon. They were very time consuming, but I LOVE how they turned out.

We used mason jars as decor for the wedding. I decorated these jars that we hung on shepard hooks that lined the aisle.

I also used mason jars as vases for the tables. I wanted blue mason jars since I loved the look, but I didn't want to have to pay the price. So what's a girl to do? I painted them!

The other table decor that I used was burlap table runners, baby food jars wrapped in lace for citronella candles and little thank you notes on every table.

Very simple and easy set up and take down. I loved it!

I wood burned bride and groom signs to hang on our chairs for our sweetheart table. 

My friend. Naomi found the perfect old fashioned drinking mugs for me, and I etched the bride and groom into them using the same font that I used on our invitations.

I used the mason jar design on our programs as well. They were three pages that stacked, hole punched and tied together with twine. Brandy, Tiffany and I did them in one three hours session just a few nights before the wedding. 

I also wood burned the heart sign for the card box, which was an unfinished crate that Matthew used a blow torch to bring out the wood grain on.

Brandy, Tiffany and I wrapped 200 sets of silverware in napkins and tied them together with a piece of burlap and ribbon. It made it easy in the buffet line to grab a roll and go through the line.

I wrapped a candle with burlap and ribbon as a memory candle in honor of those loved ones that couldn't be with us to share in our special day.

Speaking of people who couldn't be with us for our special day, I made these charms with pictures of both sets of my grandparents, Grandpa & Granny Bradley and Grandpa & Grandma Hiseley. I tied them to my bouquet and they were also able to walk me down the aisle, along with my parents.

I also wood burned little hearts and put pins on the back for my Dad, Matthew and Jason to wear instead of traditional boutonnieres. 

I also made these corsages for the Mom's and Grandma's to wear out of paper flowers and ribbon. 


My wedding was the biggest DIY challege that I ever took on, and I know that if I could go back and do it over, I wouldn't change a thing. The day was perfect! And all the little details that I made myself just added to the uniqueness of the day.

Who Needs Flowers Anyway?

Being the cheap budgetly creative bride that I'm turning out to be, I decided that I wanted to go a different route in making corsages for the VIPs for our wedding. 

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE flowers, but since we're ordering bulk flowers and doing all the arrangements and bouquets ourselves (budgetly creative, remember!), I decided that it would be smarter to make plan something different for our corsages that could be made ahead of time. 

So I made some paper sunflowers using the sunflower shape from the Silhouette store... 

...Then I took some ribbon...

 ...Added a few strips of tulle...

...glued the paper sunflower in the middle...

 ...then hot glued a pin to the back...

 ...and the end result...

Some pretty cute and (budgetly) creative corsages for the VIP ladies for our ceremony! 

I love how they turned out! And it's one more project to cross off my still pretty long list.

Cutest Flower Girl Ever!!!

My niece Kirra is going to be the flower girl for our wedding. Since our wedding is going to be kind of casual, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the perfect dress, so we bought her a cute little dress and altered it a little. 

We found the cutest little layered sun dress at the Carter's Outlet store on clearance! Even though the little flower was the perfect color to compliment my wedding color scheme, I wanted to make it different. 

All I did was make a few sunflower pins and pinned them onto the dress, so they can be removed after she's worn it for the wedding!

I also made her a sunflower kissing ball to carry down the aisle (because I don't want anyone to have to pick up flower petals.)

I love how it turned out!

I'm getting so excited... 40 days and counting!!!

Let Me Spell It Out For You

Two of the greatest friends I have, Brad and Naomi, are going to be having a baby girl in a few weeks! 

 Naomi is decorating the nursery with a touch of a cowgirl theme and showed me a beautiful wall hanging made of rope that spells out the baby's name. However, to order one that spells out Abigail, the name they've chosen, would be almost 250 dollars!!! 

Crazy, right? 

So I decided to make one of my own as part of my baby shower gift. 

It might not look exactly the same as the original, but I think it turned out pretty darn cute!  

 I started out shaping some metal wire into the outline of the name Abigail.

Then I heated up my glue gun, Debra and went to work hot gluing sisal rope over the wire outline. When I had all the wire covered, I went over the rope with a layer of mod podge to keep the rope from unfraying. 

 The other part of my gift was my second baby blanket, that I knitted using Bernat Baby Blanket yarn. The yarn was a variegated pattern of pink, orange and fuchsia. I didn't realize it, but ABF pointed out when I was about half way done that it kind of looked like pink camouflage, which was not my intention at all, but was very fitting for this family.

 Naomi was pretty thrilled that I remembered the rope name, which she'd kind of given up on and was excited about the baby blanket as well!

I can't wait to meet their new little one, I'm sure I'm going to love her as much as I love her parents!

The Cure For The Post Christmas Blues

Have you ever noticed how bare everything looks after you take down all the Christmas decor? 
 

I notice it every year, especially at work since there's so much holiday decor, than one day it's all gone and the world seems a little depressing. 
  
 One of my best friends, Brandy Jeanne, has the coolest Dad-io in the world. 

(sorry about the cell phone pic, but it's the only proof we have that he rocked the pink apron)

He's all about the Christmas decor and their house is always decked out to the max, with multiple trees in the house and everything. 

But...
 

... after Christmas is over, and the holiday decorations have been packed up and put away in the attic, he goes through a post Christmas depression. 

 Since he's a big fan of my crafty endeavors, I thought to get him out of his post Christmas funk I'd make him a pretty winter wreath to hang on their front door. 

It's the least I can do since he donates all of his nice wooden cigar boxes to my craft stash.

Update 9/19/12: I've had many, many requests for a tutorial for this wreath, but I hate to let everyone know that I don't have one. I originally made this wreath with the intention of selling it in my Etsy shop, therefore I didn't make a tutorial. I've seen many tutorials for different tulle wreaths online and just adapted this wreath using the same ideas. Sorry for any inconvenience, but the materials aren't currently available to make a tutorial, so I'll have to wait until closer to Christmas when the wreath material is on sale to see if I can make another one for a tutorial.
