Valentines... With A Mean Streak

Let me start this post off by saying that I love my co-workers.

Seriously. I work with two of the coolest girls in the whole world, April & Sarah. We all work well together, we get each others weird sense of humor and have many inside jokes.

That being said, I knew that they would find these Valentine cards that I found on Pinterest just as hilarious as I did.

Although being the "budgetly creative" person that I am, I knew that I could make them myself.

So I did!

I used my Silhouette software to design the sayings, just resizing the different lines to the right sizes to make the mean phrases much bigger.

I used the following phrases:
i would GO TO HELL and back to see you
I'D KILL to be with YOU
I HATE when YOU are not here with me
YOU'RE NOT just MY FRIEND you're my best friend
without LOVE life STINKS
when YOU'RE not with me A PAIN runs through my heart

I printed out the designs

Then cut them down with my new paper cutter that I got for Christmas. (Thanks, Mom.) I cut them 5x7 inches to make 5x3.5 inch cards.

I scored them before folding them to make them easier to fold. Yes, you can score paper with a butter knife. (budgetly creative, remember?)

And that was it. Some of the easiest Valentine cards I've ever made!

Since we're on the subject of being budgetly creative, I was going to make envelopes with my Silhouette machine, since I have several envelope shapes, but then I was walking through Michael's and realized that I could buy one of their little note card packs and just use the cute little pink envelope.

6 envelopes for $1.50. Sounds like a deal to me.

I think my co-workers are going to love my snarky little Valentine cards.

( I know I think they're hilarious!)

My Little Valentines

I was walking through Michael's the other day, trying to decide how to use my Christmas gift cards, when I stumbled upon a display that was all set up for the next major "holiday."

Valentine's Day.

Ugh!

Matthew was never really a fan of Valentine's Day, but we always did something, however small to celebrate the day. This year is different because it's the first year in a very, very long time that I don't have a Valentine.

Then I realized, I don't just have one, I have 4...

These sweet faces are all the Valetine's that this broken-hearted Auntie could need!

So I scooped up this package of heart shaped boxes to make little valentines for my sweethearts!

And a little Valentine candy for some inspiration...

I pulled out my paints for the first time in way too long, and went to town!

I used my awesome Silhouette machine to cut out sayings graphics for my heart boxes with pink vinyl.

Then I applied the graphics to my little boxes.

After applying the vinyl sayings, I applied a coat of polyurethane varnish to keep the paint from chipping off.

Once they dried, I was finished.

Now I have cute little treat boxes to give my nieces and nephew, and even a few extra to give to a few special people I know... now I just have to decide what to put inside.

Have you done any Valentine crafting yet?

Almost Famous Valentines...

This year I haven't really been that into Valentine's day, so I've been kind of unmotivated to do any Valentine crafts.

I did want to make a Valentine pillow cover for my seasonal pillow, and was inspired by this print that I found via Pinterest (LOVE Pinterest!)

via Pinterest

I fell in love with the idea of this print, but some of the couple names that were on it I wasn't the biggest fan of. So I removed the ones I didn't like, added a few others that I loved as well as my and ABF's name and stenciled the design onto a piece of fabric to sew into a pillow.

CRAFT FAIL!

I procrastinated, and of course, because I waited until the last minute everything went wrong. I wanted all the other famous couples names to be in red with my and ABF's names in white. I used metallic paint mixed with fabric paint medium, but the red that I used turned out to be more pink than red and really faint. Not to mention the stencil bled.

UGH!!!

I still love this idea and I'm wanting to give it another try, however, it's not going to be done by Valentine's Day.

On a happier note, Amazing Boyfriend and I actually have fun plans for Valentine's Day. We're driving up to Portland, having a nice dinner and going to a Portland Trailblazer basketball game! I think I'm more excited about going to the game than ABF is, but I'm still excited because we haven't been to a Blazer game together in a few years, and win or lose, games are so much fun (although they tend to me more fun if they're winning!)

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Love is...

Still here?

I honestly haven't forgotten about this blog, but life has a funny, funny way of getting in the way of all the plans that you make and tearing them to pieces. Because of medical issues that my wonderful boyfriend is currently going through I haven't had much time for crafting, although I have been doing an awful lot of knitting, but mainly because it's something to do while you're sitting in waiting rooms.

But in the last couple of days I've been able to get some projects done and I'd been procrastinating on before life decided to get in the way, and I thought I'd share them.

The first is a gift that I made for my boyfriend, which wasn't originally supposed to be for Valentine's Day, since he's not a huge fan of the holiday.

I just took a picture frame from the dollar store, painted it red, and drew the Love is... on the scrapbook paper before going over it with a permanent marker. I also got dry erase markers from the dollar store and gave them all to him to use to write or draw whatever he (or I) want.

I'm a huge fan of the love is... cartoons and am constantly using love is... and coming up with something funny that reminds me of my boyfriend.

The second Valentine's idea is something that I totally copied from Random Thoughts of a SUPERMOM... her see-through Valentine's.

Aren't they adorable?

Now here's my version

I loved the idea and had all the supplies already in my kitchen (I love when that happens!)

I traced hearts onto wax paper, cut them out, hand-stitched them together with embroidery floss and filled them with conversation hearts. Such a simple and easy Valentine's goodie that I can't wait to give to my awesome co-workers. Because honestly, who doesn't love candy.

I hope to have something else to post on here soon, although we're getting ready to move and I think everybody knows how crazy that can be.

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day
