And The Awesome Nurse Award Goes To...

I've shared with you guys before that Amazing Boyfriend is going through chemotherapy and he's currently being treated at the VA hospital in beautiful Portland, Oregon.

Going through the military hospital system is not the easiest thing in the world. There are long waits for everything from appointments to waiting at the pharmacy to get prescriptions. The only thing that seems to make it worth while at all is the nurses in the outpatient chemo unit.

They are AWESOME!!!

Each and every one of them! They are often understaffed and overbooked, but they never let you feel like you are any less important then the next patient. They remember little things about you, want to know how you're doing and always have a good joke for you.

I wanted to make something for these awesome ladies that have been taking such good care of ABF, but have been coming up blank for good ideas. But awhile back, on Pinterest, I found a really cute little idea that was perfect.

  (And super easy!)

I got several bottles of hand sanitizer, one for each nurse, and carefully peeled the labels off each one. Then I made an Awesome Nurse Award graphic with my Silhouette software and used my Silhouette machine to cut them out. Then using transfer tape, I applied the graphic to each bottle. Then I added a bow, to dress it up a bit.

We'll be giving these to the nurses today when we go to chemo. Of course, I wish that there was something more that I could do, but I hope these awesome ladies know that both ABF and I appreciate everything that they do for the both of us.

Dear Non-Reply Blog Commenter,

Dear Non-Reply Blog Commenter,

I just wanted to thank you for the sweet comment that you left on my recent post. I always love getting comments from people and always appreciate it when people stop by my blog. It seriously makes my day to read all the positive feedback that I get on my latest projects.

Whenever someone leaves me a comment I get an e-mail notifying me, and I try to reply with a short e-mail letting that person know that I appreciate the comment. But when you are a non-reply commenter, I'm not able to send that short e-mail. I hope you know that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the lovely comments that I've gotten from you. It just means that I'm not able to respond in the easiest way for me.

I hope you're having a wonderful day,
Bethany

 Speaking of strangers...

Today was a beautiful day, and being that it was a beautiful day which are so few and far between this spring in Oregon, it was so hard to take Amazing Boyfriend up to Portland for a routine procedure that he hates almost as much as he hates chemo. I won't gross you all out with the details, but he really hates having it done, although he feels SO much better when it's over.

Anyway, we made it up to Portland in good time, was able to find a parking spot at the VA hospital parking right away (a pleasant surprise) and checked in a little early. While we were in the waiting room, a nice gentleman who was sitting next to us, proudly wearing a US Marine Veteran hat, asked ABF if he minded if he gave me a rose. He told us that it'd been given to him as a thank you for his service. ABF told him he didn't mind and of course I thanked him for the pretty pink rose. This random act of kindness totally made my day!!

After that nice gentleman left, I overheard two ladies talking about the beautiful roses that each of them had. They had been given to the gentlemen that they were waiting for, thanking them for their service. Apparently, a few of the Portland Rose Festival Princesses had spent the afternoon in the cafeteria at the VA hospital, handing out roses and thanking Veterans for their service.

I want to give those wonderful girls kuddos because so often I feel like Veterans are ignored or overlooked. Every time I visit the VA hospital, I'm reminded of the price of our freedom. It's nice when others are conscience of that price as well.

A Sweet Thank You

I've had the supplies and idea to make this project for awhile, but you know, life and moving and such. Anyway, I've been trying to dig into my crafting supplies that I have and trying to make things with what I've already got.

At the beginning of April my awesome cousin, Nikki organized and held a garage sale fundraiser at her house to give the money to me and Amazing Boyfriend. She raised over $1200! We're still not sure what we're going to do with the money, although a trip has been suggested, but until we figure out what we're using the money for it's safely tucked into a savings account (so if you know where I live, don't get any funny ideas!)

Anyway, it was a huge labor of love and I'm so grateful that my cousin is as awesome as she is, so I wanted to do something to thank her. So I decided to make her...

A Sweet Candy Dish!!!

Wanna see how I did it?

Supplies
small terra cotta pot and dish
glass bowl
wooden knob
E600
paint
paintbrush
vinyl
ribbon

I started off this project by painting the pot, the dish and the wooden knob.

After all the pieces are completely dry, I glued the wooden knob to the bottom of the dish to make the lid for the candy dish. Then I glued the glass bowl to the bottom of the pot to make the base for the candy dish.

Now I have my candy dish together. Cute idea, huh?

But it still needs something...

I took some decorative vinyl and cut out the word "Sweet!" with my silhouette machine. Then applied it to the glass bowl.

Add a cute little bow, a few little candies and voila!

A sweet little thank you for my awesome cousin. I really wish that I could do more, but I know she'll appreciate the gesture.
