Scrub -A- Dub Dub

The last couple years for Christmas, Amazing Boyfriend Fiance and I have done any Christmas shopping at the local holiday market. I also happen to pick up little things for my Mom's stocking while I'm at the holiday market or at craft shows.

This last year, I got her a bar of felted soap. I didn't think anything of it, but awhile back she mentioned that she was almost out of her felted soap and that she needed to get more.

Instead of trying to find a crafter that makes felted soap, I figured that I'd just felt some myself. I couldn't be that hard, right?

Didn't I do a great job?

(Totally sarcasm, by the way.)

Yeah, this craft totally didn't turn out the way that I wanted, but I plowed through it attempted to do the best I could. I followed this tutorial, although I didn't try to make a shape. I attempted a marbled look. I did learn a few things, however and think I'm going to re-attempt this using a different type of soap and less roving.

In the mean time, you're all welcome to laugh at me...

Have you ever had a major craft fail?

P.S. A Fish Who Likes Flowers is now on Facebook! Check it out here

Long Live Summer {Traditions}!!!

There are some summer traditions that you just don't mess with.

4th of July BBQ at my parents.

Family reunion weekend.

Ice cream every chance you get.

My favorite summer tradition is the Bush Park Art Fair!

Art Fair 2011

My Mom and I go together every year. She's been taking me since I was little and she had to pull me in my wagon. It's my favorite tradition because it's quality time I get to spend with my Mom and a creative recharge because being around all these beautiful creative ideas will definitely get your creativity flowing.

I wish I could have gotten a picture to show you the AMAZING metal shoe sculptures that one artist had, but they had a sign requesting their art not to be photographed and I'm going to respect that. I wish I could have brought one home, alas the price was WAY out of my price range, but a girl can dream, even if it's about metal shoes!

I had such a wonderful time wandering through the booths with my Mom, and I already look forward to going back next year.

What are your favorite summer traditions?

Unruly Children Will Be Used As Weed Pickers

I love my Mom, but trying to come up with something wonderful to make for her for Mother's Day can sometimes be a challenge. I wish that I could take her on fun vacations or a shopping spree through her favorite yarn shop, but alas, I just don't have that kind of money.

So I made her this instead.

Amazing Boyfriend Fiance helped me out by using his blow torch on the box to bring out the wood grain, giving it a rustic look.

When he was done, I painted on the saying.

When the paint was dry, I sprayed it with a polyurethane spray to protect it from the elements.

When the polyurethane coat was dry, I added a pot of plants and a card and took it over to my Mom, who loved it!

Did you make your Mom anything for Mother's Day?

Something Witchy This Way Comes...

Last year I found these adorable witchy dishtowel tutorial from the brilliant Beverly at Flamingo Toes. I thought these were the cutest things I'd ever seen and wanted to make them, but that was before I conquered the Viking, so I put them in a someday file.

When I was trying to figure out what to make my Mom for her birthday, I thought about the witchy dishtowels again, and knew that Mom would appreciate them. (Plus, I could make a few that I could keep for myself because someday I will have a kitchen again.)

These ones are for Mom!!!

These ones I'm hoarding keeping for myself!

So cute, right!

Beverly's tutorial is super easy to follow, but if you don't have a sewing machine or want to have one made by the expert,  you can buy one in her Etsy shop! Trust me, hers are much better then mine.

I'm so happy that I was actually able to finish these because the Viking and I were having a week long stand off regarding tension issues. We seemed to have resolved our differences, and I was able to get these done just in time for Mom's birthday. I hope she likes them!

P.S. Happy Birthday, Mom!!!
