Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful

Anyone who regularly reads this blog knows that quite a few of my crafty projects are gifts that I make for my family and friends.

So I had to show you what I made for my niece, Gabby for her 17th birthday. (Yes, I said 17, and yes, that does make me feel old!)

I made her a jewelry hanger out of a hinged shadow box!

I got the idea from the craft store where I bought the frame. The back piece is canvas that I painted champagne gold, than stenciled a flowery pattern onto in purple. I added clear thumbtacks that she can use to hang her necklaces, bracelets and earrings from, and she can even move the tacks around to position her jewelry better. ABF added the decorative knob on the door of the frame so that it's easy to open and close. (Sorry, I didn't get a better picture of that part.)

I added a vinyl quote 'Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful' that I felt was appropriate encouragement for a 17 year old girl.

My pictures don't really do it justice. It turned out awesome! I wasn't really planning on blogging out it, but I loved how well it turned out so of course I had to share.

P.S. Happy Birthday, Gabby!!!

Where's The Remote?

Seriously, how many times have you heard that question?

This was always the dreaded question at my parents' house, because somebody always walked off with the remote. And there would be hell to pay if you were that somebody!

I saw this idea forever ago, before I started blogging, and I feel bad because I honestly can't remember where I saw it, but the idea was pretty simple and after I started sewing, I remembered it and thought, 'That would make a great gift for my Dad!'

Behold, the remote pillow!!!

(I know, I'm a genius...just kidding)

I put "Grandpa's Chair" on the pillow because my Dad currently has as many grandkids as he does kids (that and this way I can tease him about being an old man. Just kidding!)

I know it's not quite Christmas just yet, so I probably shouldn't be posting this, but since my Dad doesn't really use the computer, I feel pretty safe in sharing this with everyone. I hope he likes it, especially if it really does help keep track of the remotes.

I Made Something Pretty & There Are Already Bets On Who's Gonna Ruin It...

Doilies seem to be a popular crafting trend this year.

I found these fall themed doilies at the dollar store and knew they would be perfect to create a beautiful Thanksgiving tablecloth.

I think it turned out better than I pictured it in my head!

I just took a natural toned tablecloth that I bought at Target, dazzling metallic paint from DecoArt and fabric paint medium, and used the doilies as a stencil. It took me about 4 and a half hours to complete with a short lunch break with Amazing Boyfriend somewhere near the end.

And before any of you ask, yes, those are make up sponges that I used, because I realized that I didn't have any sponge brushes just before I laid all my supplies out.

Hey, sometimes you have to rock what ya got!

I also covered the table I was working on with plastic before I started, because even though I didn't use a lot of paint, it bled through a little bit.

I'm so pleased with how everything turned out, and my Mom is really happy with the end result. And I'm so happy that I got some good pictures of my pretty table cloth before one of my nieces and/or brothers spill something on it.

Because in my family that's bound to happen.

Did you notice my pretty centerpiece?

I'll show you guys how to make it on Wednesday. Super easy, I promise!
