Because My Dog is a GIRL!!!

Technically, Luna is Amazing Boyfriend's dog. He is totally her person. She listens to him better than anyone else. He is the ONLY person who can clip her toe nails and can give her a bath without getting completely soaking wet. 
 

After her spay operation, when we figured out that Luna had become incontinent, it wasn't even a question about giving her up. Our new vet prescribed a medication to help, but after ABF read that it could cause her to have a stroke and die, we gave up the medication and decided that having her wear diapers really wasn't that bad. Now it's just a way of life. 
 

But I still have arguments with ABF because Luna is a girl and he won't let me buy anything remotely girly for her. He got mad once because I bought her a purple leash, thinking it wasn't pink so he shouldn't freak. He was really happy the day that she chewed that leash up. 
 

 So while he was sleeping, I got a wild hair and decided to vinyl-ize Luna's dog dish.

Much better, don't you think?

I think I'm not even going to tell Amazing Boyfriend what I did. Maybe I'll just see how long it takes him to notice the newest embellishment. 

Updated 4/26/11: Amazing Boyfriend fed Luna this evening around 9 and finally noticed the vinyl. He thought I painted it at first, but didn't seem to care when I told him what I really did. I still got a good laugh that it took him about 5 days to notice, but at least he's not making me take it off.

I LOVE the dollar bins at Michaels...

I LOVE the dollar bins at Michael's and am very sad that they've not gotten rid of them at my local store. Now they have the 2 items for $3, which just isn't the same. 

I've actually had all the supplies to make this project for awhile but after Amazing Boyfriend was diagnosed with cancer most things in my life got put on hold and my craft supplies got packed up to be moved. Now that we're moved and settled in, I've been trying to get projects done that I already have all the materials for.

I was so excited when I was shopping in January at Michael's to come across these monogram hooks in the dollar bins. I thought they would be the cutest little project to make for my nieces (since I'm the super cool crafty aunt that I am.)  I dug through the bin and grabbed a G, R, T, K, (for Gabby, Rylee, Tylar, and Kirra) and taking a chance on the yet to be determined little one we're expecting in June, I grabbed a J. I was so happy later to find out that I guessed right on the sex of the baby and had grabbed a J for my future nephew, Jackson. 

 I started this project by deciding what scrapbook paper from my stash I was going to use for each letter. Then I painted the sides of each letter a coordinating color.

Once the paint dried, I started the decoupage process. I traced each letter onto the back of the scrapbook page and cut it out before modge podging it to the hook. I made sure I went over the surface to push out any air bubbles before adding a coat of modge podge to seal the paper to the hook. 

I'm so happy with the way these turned out. 

I love that this project didn't cost me very much, plus I was able to use a bunch of my crafting materials I already had on hand. Hopefully, my nieces and nephew like them and even if they don't, I think they're adorable.

Awesome Alphabet Magnets

I think that being an Aunt is one of the coolest things in the world. 

I love my nieces!!! They all crack my up in so many different ways. And being the Aunt, I get to do cool things with them, spoil them a little bit and when I'm done hanging out with them, I get to take them home so that their parents get to deal with them. Pretty sweet deal, right? 

 

My youngest niece, Kirra, will be starting the Terrible Twos soon and already has quite a bit of the attitude. But since her birthday is coming up, and I'm the crafty Aunt that I am, I had to come up with something clever to make her for her birthday. 

 My niece is all about the bling. If it's shiny or sparkly, she's all about it. So of course that had to be a factor when it came to coming up with an idea that she would love. I also wanted to make her something that would actually be useful. 

I saw this post by Anna from Wit Behind the Ears who painted over a set of plastic alphabet magnets with spray paint to make them not so ugly. And as much as I applaud her, I decided to take it one step further. 

I made Glitter Alphabet Magnets!!!

Supplies

First I spray painted the alphabet magnets white with Krylon Fusion for plastic that I had left over from this project so that I wouldn't need as much of the pink paint. 

When the spray paint dried, I painted the letters with a pink color that matched the glitter I had picked out. 

When the paint was done drying, I applied a thick coat of modge podge and quickly poured glitter over the top of the magnet, and tapped off the excess glitter before setting it aside to dry.

Once the glitter was set, I sprayed my letters with a triple thick clear glaze to keep the glitter on the letters instead of flaking everywhere. Hopefully, that'll do the trick. 

 

I'm hoping that my niece will have as much fun playing with them as I had making them.

A Sweet Thank You

I've had the supplies and idea to make this project for awhile, but you know, life and moving and such. Anyway, I've been trying to dig into my crafting supplies that I have and trying to make things with what I've already got. 

At the beginning of April my awesome cousin, Nikki organized and held a garage sale fundraiser at her house to give the money to me and Amazing Boyfriend. She raised over $1200! We're still not sure what we're going to do with the money, although a trip has been suggested, but until we figure out what we're using the money for it's safely tucked into a savings account (so if you know where I live, don't get any funny ideas!)

Anyway, it was a huge labor of love and I'm so grateful that my cousin is as awesome as she is, so I wanted to do something to thank her. So I decided to make her...

A Sweet Candy Dish!!!

Supplies

small terra cotta pot and dish

glass bowl

I started off this project by painting the pot, the dish and the wooden knob. 

After all the pieces are completely dry, I glued the wooden knob to the bottom of the dish to make the lid for the candy dish. Then I glued the glass bowl to the bottom of the pot to make the base for the candy dish.

Now I have my candy dish together. Cute idea, huh? 

But it still needs something...

I took some decorative vinyl and cut out the word "Sweet!" with my silhouette machine. Then applied it to the glass bowl. 

 

Add a cute little bow, a few little candies and voila! 

A sweet little thank you for my awesome cousin. I really wish that I could do more, but I know she'll appreciate the gesture.
