Sometimes I wonder if my life is just an interesting weave of coincidence or if it's just ironic.
During my last picture frame crafting bender (which you can all read about here) I stumbled across this really cute picture frame that Crystal from A Pumpkin and A Princess did. She used crushed shells and modge podged them to a picture frame. The result was adorable and I filed it away thinking that maybe I'd get a chance to make one someday.
A few weeks later, I was at my Mom's house and I was talking about all the projects that I had on my to-do list. (Okay, honestly, I was whining about all the projects I had on my to-do list because at that time I had over 20.) She didn't have much sympathy for me because she added another project to my list because she wanted to make a special frame for her friend to put pictures in from their recent beach trip. I told her that I'd do it (hey, it's the least I can do, the woman gave me LIFE), when I had a chance.
It wasn't until I came home that I put two and two together.
Beach trip photos + seashell frame = AWESOMENESS!!!
Of course, I had to make it a little different. My Mom has several pictures that she wanted to use, so I thought putting frames together with hinges would be a great solution.
I painted all three of the frames, screwed the hinges on (all by myself with the help of Amazing Boyfriends ratcheting screwdriver), then added the shells with modge podge and spray adhesive. I also sprayed with a clear coat once everything was dried.
My Mom still needs to put her beach trip pictures in but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Plus I have shells left over to use on another project. And I really like the hinged frame idea. I might have to use that again as well.

ReplyDeleteLove this...what a great use of those shells that don't make it home in one piece. I have just done a little decorating with shells myself HERE, and now I think I have to make one of your frames.
